Data Privacy has been important to both individuals and companies for decades. In fact, this is why we have placed locks on P.O. boxes, file cabinets and doors. But now that our world is turning digital, it is of even greater importance to protect Data Privacy.

Derived data is the fourth and final level within the four levels of data. This type of data is based on all three levels of data previously mentioned. Derived data can glean insights from how frequently you login to a social media platform in a certain geographical location to the type of content you publish on the internet. As the user, you have little to no control over this derived data.

Generated or Observable Data is the third level within the four levels of data. This type of data is typically machine generated and automatically created without active human intervention. Think like a code that is running in the background that is just there to work off of input data and metadata.

Input data is the first level within the four levels of data. This type of data is initiated by the user and every other layer of data is extracted or created from this input data.
